National Wesleyan Church and Annex Building
6324 Riggs, Road, Hyattsville, Maryland
Architects At Work Inc. completed the Facility Study to address building
needs, new mission goals, and facility expansion plans in a CONCEPT
PROPOSAL which proved popular and quickly became capable of funding.
The architecture/engineering team are now preparing a package of Construction
Documents to obtain Prince Georges County construction permits.
Prior to assembling the Construction Documents package the architect
and the Building Committee arranged a “Preliminary Plan Design
Meeting” with the County Code officials. This allowed the main
issues pertaining to OCCUPANCY CERTIFICATES, code compliance problems,
Dept of Health complaints, and Americans with Disabilities upgrades
to be successfully addressed. As an existing building it certainly held
complications to code compliance and this process solved all new scope
The new Lobby is to be a gathering space with high ceilings in a framed
border around a dramatic central skylight. The one side of this gathering
space is developed as a coffee/beverage sitting area with not only is
equipped with tables and chairs, but also with comfortable sofa seating.
The Annex Building is being changed on the entire main floor to become
a Children’s Church with classrooms and a main assembly room.
The hallways have fun mini-storefronts to feature movie theatre marquis,
olde time store delicatessen, sweet shop, beauty shop, and rail station
motif to give the youth their own village of spaces.
